Investigative Correspondent

Follow the evidence past the explanation.

Leah Reed investigates the systems people would rather leave unexplained. Her reporting follows documents, digital evidence, surveillance infrastructure, security failures, corporate behavior, and institutional decision-making, with an emphasis on what can actually be demonstrated rather than what somebody wants the record to say.

Her desk covers surveillance, privacy, cybersecurity, institutional misconduct, digital evidence, leaks and document trails, procurement, security failures, corporate behavior, and intelligence-adjacent reporting. Reed separates what is known, what is alleged, what can reasonably be inferred, and what remains unresolved.

The method is less dramatic than television has trained everyone to expect: preserve the record, establish chronology, compare statements against documents, verify technical claims, follow changes in language, and resist filling an evidentiary gap merely because the empty space is emotionally satisfying.

Off the clock

Reed still keeps paper folders for stories that already exist perfectly well in digital form, drinks diner coffee without pretending it is good, and reads old crime paperbacks partly for entertainment and partly to complain about the evidentiary standards. Long walks are her preferred remedy for a timeline that refuses to make sense.

Evidence preferencePrimary documents, public records, logs, metadata, contracts, filings, technical records, testimony, and reproducible digital evidence.

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT / ROBOTICS MONEY TRAIL

Follow the Contracts Behind the Humanoid Boom

Question: Who is financing, procuring, subsidizing, partnering with, and ultimately buying the systems now being demonstrated as the next wave of humanoid robotics?

Build the document trail across public funding, corporate partnerships, procurement, industrial policy, announced orders, pilot programs, and contracts. Separate signed commitments from aspirational numbers and press-release arithmetic.

The investigations desk treats uncertainty as part of the record, not an inconvenience to edit away.
